Childrens Health Days(CHD)
CHDs target hard-to-reach and extremely vulnerable rural village communities. They specifically target under fives (U5), but also engage other community members.
They have two main components:
1. A day-long event of activities that engage children and adults in:
- Interactive HIV education for caregivers and older children
- HIV testing
- Vitamin supplementations (U5)
- Health screenings for TB and Severe Acute Malnutrition (U5)
- Immunizations (U5)
- Other health needs e.g. testing pregnant women.
2. A follow up day whereby HIV positive children are transported to the nearest ART clinic for evaluation, treatment and care.
Key Objectives
- Provide testing and health screening primarily to U5 patients in hard to reach communities
- Identify HIV positive children and immediately refer and transport them to the nearest ART clinic for regular follow up.
- Use an interactive educational programme to educate communities about HIV.
